Why the size matters.

1290 x 2796 is the panel size on Apple's recent Pro Max and Plus phones, and it is comfortably bigger than most Android screens, so it scales down onto a Pixel or a Galaxy rather than being blown up. iOS also zooms a wallpaper slightly for its parallax effect, and starting above your screen resolution is what keeps that from going soft.

Every pack also carries a 1080 x 2400 Android crop and a 1179 x 2556 iPhone crop, so you are not left resizing anything yourself.
